Edition #32 – Resilience in Recruitment

Talent Tip

Resilience in hiring starts with mindset, rejection is part of the process, and the best recruiters don’t internalise it. Build in buffer candidates, set realistic expectations with clients, and always have a contingency plan. If one candidate falls through, you don’t want the entire process to collapse. Treat setbacks as data points, not personal failures, and use them to refine your process. KPIs are your friend, not your enemy, remember this whilst you are setting your daily and weekly objectives. Did you hit them? do the rollover to the next day? why didn’t you hit them? what can you change?

Resilience starts to build when you turn problems into solutions.

AI Spotlight

Resilience in recruitment often comes down to anticipating problems before they fully surface. AI can now analyse the sentiment and emotional tone of candidate emails, messages, and even voice notes. If engagement levels dip, or frustration starts to creep in, recruiters get early insights that something might be off. Instead of being blindsided by a sudden withdrawal, you have a chance to step in, re-engage, and keep the process on track. This shifts resilience from simply reacting to challenges, to actively managing them before they escalate.

Personal Insight

I’ve learned a lot about resilience outside of recruitment through running marathons. In a 42km race, there are moments when your body screams to stop. The trick isn’t to eliminate discomfort but to accept it, pace yourself, and keep moving forward. Recruitment works the same way, setbacks will happen, but consistency and calm persistence carry you through. I’ve found that the recruiters and hiring managers who last the longest aren’t those who avoid rejection, but those who bounce back faster and keep their eyes on the bigger picture.
